Reducing on-site energy consumption is one of Goodman’s main priorities. With Signify as our partner, we aim to have LED lighting across our entire Continental European portfolio. The ongoing conversion of non-LED equipped floor space – around 1,000,000 sqm - will be completed by the end of 2023.
LED is more energy-efficient, requires hardly any maintenance and lasts much longer than regular bulbs – up to 100.000 hours. Converting the entire Goodman portfolio in Europe to LED will allow our customers to save 3,417 tons of CO2 annually (4,168 Brussels – New York flights) and to reduce their electricity consumption.
Our partnership with Signify stems from a mutual concern for the environment. Like Goodman, Signify has defined its own advanced sustainability goals to reduce greenhouse gases emissions on a global level. Their emphasis on circularity and energy efficiency has resulted in operational carbon neutrality since September 2020.
In terms of technology, Signify’s innovative solutions convinced us to work with them. The high-quality LED fixtures with embedded sensors and smart capabilities, such as zoning and programming for optimal comfort and energy efficiency, are a perfect fit in a warehouse environment.
Customers can upgrade their system with a remote diagnostics dashboard that alerts users when malfunctions or outages occur to make the installation more eco-friendly and cost-effective. Preventive maintenance can be planned based on real-time performance data.
Signify guarantees a clean and quick installation process in all our facilities, dismantling, removing and recycling the existing fixtures and lamps while mounting the new LED fixtures using the existing electrical infrastructure. Our collaborative forecasting exercise allows us to start the implementation process only two to three weeks after an order has been made, which helps us to achieve our ambition within the limited time frame.
We were the first logistics real estate developer to pledge to bring our emissions within a 1.5°C trajectory, as stated in the Paris Agreement of 2015. We’ve developed GreenSpace+, a sustainability vision for our development projects based on clean energy, circularity, and offsetting to reach that target. It’s our science-based pathway towards building circular, net-positive spaces.
